Get your free estimateES Windows Window Replacement: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
Replacing a failed ES Windows unit in Fresno typically costs between $850 and $1,900 per window installed, depending on glass package, frame material, and whether the original opening needs reframing. We stock ES Windows-compatible replacement sashes, insulated glass units, hardware, and weatherstripping, and our crew can usually match your existing frame within two to three business days. Most Fresno owners discover a problem the hard way: a window that suddenly won’t lock, condensation fogging between the panes, or a bedroom that feels ten degrees hotter in July than it did last summer.
If you’ve got an ES Windows product that’s failed or failing, this page covers exactly what to check, what it costs, and how to get it fixed without a crew that treats your living room like a lumberyard. Keith Yamada and our team at Lightwell Windows Fresno have worked on ES Windows units across the city long enough to know what fails first and what’s worth saving.
Which ES Windows Models This Applies To
ES Windows makes several product lines with distinct hardware and glazing specs, and the replacement path depends on which one you have. The main series we service in Fresno include the ES 7000 and ES 9000 aluminum lines, the ES Vinyl 5000 series, and the heavier commercial-rated ES 10000 thermally broken aluminum used in some newer tract homes and custom builds.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: ES Windows changed their glazing bead profile between the 2016 and 2017 manufacturing runs on the 7000 series. If your window was installed before roughly mid-2016, the replacement sash we order uses the older bead geometry, and mixing old frames with new sashes without matching that profile creates a seal failure within the first year. We check the label etched into the corner of the glass or on the frame spacer bar to confirm the exact manufacture date before ordering anything.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for ES Windows specifically, we recommend OEM sashes and IGUs whenever the frame is staying in place. The extrusion tolerances on ES aluminum are tight enough that a generic aftermarket sash from a supply house can bow the frame or bind the lock mechanism. Where aftermarket makes sense is hardware: a quality replacement crank operator or lock set from a company like Truth Hardware works fine on ES casements and costs about half what the branded part runs. We’ll show you both prices and let you choose.

Signs Your ES Windows Window Replacement Is Failing
- Fog or condensation between the glass panes: This means the IGU seal has failed. The desiccant inside the spacer bar has saturated, and now you have moisture trapped where it can’t be wiped off. In Fresno’s dry climate, owners sometimes miss this because it only shows up on cool mornings. By the time it’s visible at noon, the seal has been gone for months.
- Window won’t lock or the lock feels mushy: On ES casement and awning windows, the lock point runs through a multi-point mechanism along the sash. When one point drifts out of alignment, the crank starts feeling stiff and the lock won’t seat. The cause is usually a worn roller or a bent hinge arm, not the lock itself.
- Crank turns but the sash doesn’t move smoothly: That’s the gear-and-arm operator wearing out. ES casements from the mid-2010s used an operator with a plastic worm gear that strips after about eight to ten years of regular use, especially on west-facing walls where the heat cycles bake the plastic brittle.
- Drafts you can feel at the frame edge even when closed: Weatherstripping on ES windows is compression-fit into the frame channel. After enough Central Valley dust seasons, the wool pile and vinyl bulb flatten and lose spring. The fix is a replacement weatherstrip, not a whole window, but it needs to match the old channel width or the sash will bind.
- Visible oxidation or powdering on aluminum frames: Fresno’s hard water and summer sun eventually get through the factory finish on older aluminum frames. Once the extrusion starts oxidizing at the corners or along the sill, the frame can’t be refinished to match, and a full-frame replacement is the honest answer. Painting over it lasts one season.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fresno, a sash-only ES Windows replacement with new glass runs between $850 and $1,400 per window. A full-frame replacement, which we recommend when the original frame is pitted, out of square, or installed before 2000, runs $1,300 to $1,900 per opening. Glass packages are the biggest variable: standard clear dual-pane starts lower, while low-E with argon fill, which makes a real difference on south and west walls in Fresno heat, adds about $150 to $300 per window.
Every quote we give is a written line-item price before any work starts. That number includes the new sash or frame, glass, hardware, weatherstripping, removal and disposal of the old unit, and the interior and exterior cleanup. You will not get a surprise change-order call from Keith. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the finished window isn’t right, we make it right, no debate.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things worth checking yourself before calling anyone. A sticker or etching in the glass corner tells you the manufacture date and series. A photo of that saves a trip. You can also check whether the issue is just weatherstripping by running a finger along the frame channel when the window is closed; if you feel a gap, that’s often a less expensive fix than a full sash.
Where we’d stop you is at the point of removing a sash from an ES casement. The sash rides on a spring-loaded hinge arm under real tension, and releasing it without the right support can send the panel into the wall or onto a hand. Same story with lifting an IGU out of a frame – it’s heavier than it looks and the glass edges will cut. This is work where the tool investment alone usually costs more than the labor we’d charge. Call (559) 272-9650 and we’ll start with a look.
FAQs
Expect 18 to 25 years from a well-installed ES Windows unit in Fresno’s climate. The limiting factor here is seal failure from thermal cycling: a west-facing window can see 60-degree temperature swings between a July afternoon and the overnight cool-down, and that flexing is what eventually separates the IGU seal. Vinyl frames tend to outlast aluminum finishes, but the glass package fails on roughly the same schedule regardless.
A fogged IGU cannot be defogged back to like-new condition. Some companies offer a drill-and-vent service where they install small one-way vents into the glass, but that does not restore the argon fill or the original energy performance, and it looks like what it is. A clean glass replacement in the existing sash is the honest fix. Call (559) 272-9650 and we’ll quote it plainly.
A sash-only swap on an existing frame usually takes our crew 45 to 90 minutes per window once parts are in hand. Full-frame replacements run half a day per window when the opening is straight, and a full day when we’re reframing and re-flashing around an older rough opening. We protect floors with drop cloths, run quiet tools during nap hours if you tell us, and take a photo of the cleaned-up area before we leave.
We keep common ES Windows hardware on our trucks: crank operators, lock sets, weatherstripping profiles, and corner keys. Sashes and insulated glass units are made to order against your exact frame measurements and typically arrive at our Fresno shop in five to seven business days. If your window is out of production or the label has faded, we’ll measure the frame and match from the taped edge profile. A live person picks up when you call (559) 272-9650.
