We install ECO Window Systems windows across Fresno, and most full window installations run between $850 and $1,900 per opening depending on the frame condition, glass package, and whether the existing window needs a full tear-out or just a retrofit into the original frame. We keep a steady inventory of ECO Window Systems-compatible hardware, balances, and weatherstripping on our trucks, so a failing window can often be diagnosed and repaired the same day it’s reported. Most homeowners discover an installation problem the way you probably did: a window that suddenly sticks, a draft that wasn’t there last winter, or a sash that drops when you let go of it.
If you’re reading this because your ECO Window Systems window is no longer closing, locking, or sealing the way it did when it was first installed, you’re in the right place. The fix is rarely complicated once someone actually looks at the frame, the balance system, and the weather seal together. The problem is that most installers treat a window issue as a mystery instead of a mechanical problem with a specific answer. We don’t.
Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To
ECO Window Systems manufactures vinyl and aluminum window lines, and in Fresno we work on their single-hung, double-hung, horizontal slider, and casement models. The most common units we service locally are the ECO 3000 and ECO 5000 series, which you’ll find in homes built or remodeled between roughly 2008 and 2019. ECO’s vinyl frames use a distinctive narrow profile compared to brands like PGT or CWS, and that affects exactly how the weatherstripping seats and how the sash balance clips engage. A balance clip from another brand will not seat correctly in an ECO frame, even if it looks close at a glance.
To identify your specific window, look for the ECO label on the top or side edge of the sash. If the label has faded, pull the sash inward and check the head of the frame for a small etched or printed serial code. The code won’t tell you everything, but a photo of it sent to us before your estimate helps the technician bring the right parts on the first visit. One thing worth knowing: OEM ECO replacement parts are increasingly hard to source, especially for older series, so we stock proven aftermarket equivalents that match the original tolerances and perform just as well. We’ll tell you which is which, and our written price will say exactly what you’re getting.

Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Installation Is Failing
A window installation doesn’t usually fail all at once. It fails in stages, and most Fresno homeowners notice one of these five things first:
- The sash won’t stay up. This points to a worn or broken balance system. The coil or block-and-tackle balances inside the frame lose tension over time, especially in windows that face direct Central Valley sun for six or seven hours a day. We’ve replaced balances on windows as young as five years in south-facing bedrooms in Clovis and Bullard-area homes.
- You feel a draft even when the window is closed and locked. The wool pile or vinyl weatherstripping along the sash edges has compressed or torn. On ECO frames specifically, the weather seal channel is shallower than on many other brands, so once the pile is shot, there’s no slack left to keep the seal tight. This is a straightforward part replacement, not a window replacement.
- The lock requires force to engage, or won’t catch at all. Over time, the frame can settle with temperature swings, especially in newer Fresno subdivisions with expansive clay soil. The keeper and latch fall out of alignment by a few millimeters. Sometimes it’s an adjustment; other times it’s a bent lock assembly that needs the matching ECO replacement part.
- Condensation appears between the panes. That’s a failed insulated glass unit (IGU), not a frame problem. The perimeter seal has lost its integrity. In Fresno’s dry climate, this shows up more often in bathrooms and kitchens where indoor humidity is higher. The IGU gets replaced, and the frame usually stays.
- The window is increasingly hard to open or close from day one of your ownership. We see this in homes where a previous installer set the frame slightly out of square. It doesn’t get better on its own; it gets worse as the vinyl expands and contracts. The fix is often releveling and resetting the window, not buying a new one.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fresno, a complete ECO Window Systems window installation typically runs between $850 and $1,900 per opening. Here’s how that breaks down:
- New construction or full tear-out installation: $1,200 to $1,900 per window, including removal of the old unit, new flashing and sealant, insulation, exterior trim, and interior cleanup.
- Retrofit installation into an existing sound frame: $850 to $1,300 per window, including the new ECO-compatible window, new trim where needed, and re-sealing the perimeter.
- Hardware or balance replacement on an existing ECO window: $150 to $350 per window, including parts and labor. This is the most common repair call we get.
- IGU (glass unit) replacement: $200 to $450 per sash, depending on glass size and whether it’s single or double-pane.
The range depends on whether the window is on the ground floor or needs ladder work, whether the existing frame has water damage hidden behind the trim, and which ECO series you have. The older 3000 series often requires more shimming and adjustment during a retrofit than the 5000 series because of frame settling. Your written price covers the parts, the labor, the haul-away of old materials, and our cleanup. We won’t hand you a change order unless we find rot or structural damage we couldn’t see before opening the wall, and we’ll show it to you with photos first.
DIY or Call Us?
For hardware issues, you can safely check a few things yourself: whether the lock keeper have screws come loose, whether dirt has built up in the bottom track of a slider, and whether the weatherstripping is visibly torn. Those are all things a homeowner can identify in five minutes. What we’d caution against is replacing balances, coils, or IGUs on your own. The tension in a window balance can release quickly, and a vinyl frame needs precise shimming to hold a new IGU without stressing the glass. Keith Yamada has seen too many homeowners spend money on a replacement part only to crack a sash because the balance tension wasn’t released in the right order. FAQs
In Fresno’s climate, an ECO vinyl window can reasonably last 20 to 30 years for the frame, but the hardware and weatherstripping typically need attention every 8 to 12 years. South-facing windows aged faster than north-facing ones, and windows near sprinkler overspray age faster than those that stay dry. The frame itself rarely fails; it’s almost always a replaceable component.
Yes, in most cases the hardware, balances, weatherstripping, and even the glass unit can be replaced without installing an entirely new window. The only time replacement makes more sense is when the frame is warped, rotted (in wood-frame homes), or so far out of square that no amount of shimming will restore a clean seal. We’ll tell you honestly which camp your window falls into.
A single retrofit or hardware repair typically takes two to three hours. A full tear-out installation on one opening takes half a day with cleanup included. We protect the floors, leave the work area the way we found it, and we wear shoe covers inside the house. If your kids are napping, we’ll work around the quiet hours whenever we can.
We keep the most commonly needed ECO-compatible balances, pivot bars, weatherseal, and lock components on the truck. If your window needs a specific IGU size or an OEM part from an older ECO series, we order it and schedule the install when it arrives. We’ll tell you the lead time before you pay anything.
The point of a window, at least the way we see it, is what Keith says on job sites: a window that fits right the first time doesn’t ask for your attention again, and that’s exactly the point. A light well is what brings daylight deep into a building, and a well-installed ECO window should do the same for your Fresno home.
