Get your free estimateCWS Door Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CWS-compatible door hardware, weatherstripping, thresholds, hinges, and complete door slabs throughout Fresno, with most part replacements running between $180 and $650 installed depending on the component and your door series. If your CWS door is dragging, leaking air, or refusing to latch cleanly, we can usually diagnose it over the phone and have the right part on the truck the first trip out. What most Fresno homeowners notice first is a door that was tight five years ago now lets a ribbon of afternoon heat through the bottom edge, or a handle that needs a firm shoulder to close.
We are an independent Fresno service provider, not affiliated with CWS, which means we can recommend the part that actually solves the problem rather than the part a brand rep prefers to sell.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS has produced several door lines over the years, and the compatibility gotcha is real: the weatherstripping and threshold profiles from a CWS 5000 series door typically do not interchange with the older 3000 series, even though both are labeled CWS. We always confirm the series stamp or the original order number before we order anything. If you cannot find a label, a photo of the door edge and threshold sent to us is usually enough to identify it.
In our experience across Fresno, the two lines we see most are the CWS 5000 and the CWS Estate series, and within each line there are subtle differences in hinge mortise depth and sweep profile that make guessing with an aftermarket part a poor bet. For the threshold and sweeps specifically, we use OEM CWS parts wherever the door is still under any sort of warranty, and a quality-machined aftermarket equivalent only when the OEM option is discontinued or would take three weeks to arrive. We carry the common CWS weatherstripping, sweeps, thresholds, and multipoint lock actuators on our service vehicles now, because waiting on a backordered part in a Fresno summer is not something we would wish on a client.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing
- The door drags or scrapes at the threshold when you open it. This usually means the sweep has worn down to the metal spine and is now gouging the threshold, or the hinge screws have loosened under the door’s weight. Left alone, it takes the finish off the threshold and starts wearing the door slab edge itself.
- Daylight, dust, or a hot draft is visible under the door. The compression gasket in a CWS threshold loses its memory after enough Central Valley heat cycles, especially on west-facing Fresno doors that get baked every afternoon. Once the gasket flattens, the door cannot seal the way it did when it was new.
- The multipoint lock no longer throws all three bolts with one handle turn. CWS doors use a multipoint lock system, and when the gearbox actuator strips or the lock rods fall out of alignment, you are down to one deadbolt doing all the work. That is a security issue, not just a convenience one.
- The handle feels loose or you hear a clicking when you turn it. The return spring inside the lever assembly is the first thing to wear out on high-traffic entry doors, and a clicking handle is the telltale that it is about to give out.
- Condensation or fogging between the glass panes in the door panel. A failed insulating glass seal is more common on older CWS doors than people expect, and in Fresno’s dry heat the giveaway is often a faint haze rather than heavy fogging. The glass unit can be replaced without replacing the entire door in most cases.

DIY or Call Us?
Some of this work is genuinely DIY-friendly, and I will not pretend otherwise. Replacing a CWS door sweep usually takes a screwdriver and fifteen minutes, and a homeowner who is careful can handle it. Threshold gaskets are trickier because they require cutting the gasket to length and seating it perfectly, and getting it wrong means you have just traded one leak for another.
The line is the multipoint lock system. Those lock rods and gearboxes are under spring tension, and the actuator is not a forgiving part. When it lets go mid-repair, it can take a hunk of the door edge with it, and a misaligned lock rod is a security gap you will not notice until it matters. That is work I recommend leaving to someone who has done it a few hundred times. If you are unsure whether your issue is simple or serious, call us at (559) 272-9650 and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you straight which bucket it falls into, and our estimate is free either way.
FAQs
In Fresno’s climate, a CWS weatherstripping and sweep set typically lasts five to eight years before the heat starts breaking down the vinyl and compression gaskets lose their spring. West-facing doors tend to fail on the shorter end of that range because the afternoon sun puts the threshold through a harsher thermal cycle. Multipoint lock actuators and handle sets can last the life of the door or need replacement at year twelve, and it often comes down to how hard the door is used and whether anyone slams it against a thrown deadbolt. We keep common CWS wear parts in stock so a worn sweep or threshold gasket is typically a single-visit fix, not a two-week wait. Call (559) 272-9650 and describe the symptom, and we will give you a straight answer on what it likely is and what it will cost.
Some components can be repaired, but in our experience the parts that fail most often are designed to be replaced, not rebuilt. A loose hinge can be tightened and re-seated, and a lock rod that has simply slipped out of alignment can be reset without buying anything. But a flattened threshold gasket, a stripped actuator gear, or a worn door sweep are wear items, and attempting to repair them typically buys a few weeks before the same symptom returns. We will always tell you if repair is a real option, and we will never sell a replacement where a ten-minute adjustment would solve the problem. Contact us at (559) 272-9650 for an honest assessment at no charge.
Most single-part replacements, like a sweep, threshold gasket, handle set, or multipoint actuator, take between 45 minutes and two hours with our crew. A full door slab replacement, including removing the old door, fitting the new one, setting the hinges, and reinstalling the hardware, is usually a four to six hour job. We protect the floors with drop cloths, wear shoe covers indoors, and send you a photo of the clean-up before we leave, so the only thing that changes is the door working the way it should.
We stock the common CWS wear parts on our trucks, including weatherstripping profiles for the 5000 and Estate series, door sweeps, threshold gaskets, and multipoint lock actuators. Less common items, like a full CWS door slab or a custom glass unit, are typically ordered and arrive within a week to ten days. If you are not sure whether your part is something we would have, send us a photo and call (559) 272-9650, and we will tell you before we ever schedule the visit.
