We’re an independent Fresno Therma Tru service provider, repairing and installing Classic-Craft, Smooth-Star, Pulse, and Benchmark doors across the city and surrounding neighborhoods. Our technicians work on Therma-Tru door slabs and fiberglass frames daily, so we know exactly where these units fail in Fresno’s triple-digit summers and damp tule fog winters. If your Therma-Tru door is sticking, sagging, drafty, or showing fiberglass delamination, call us at (559) 272-9650 for a straight answer and a written price before we touch anything.
We are not authorized by or affiliated with Therma-Tru. We’re an independent service provider, which means we make repair and replacement recommendations based on what the door actually needs, not what a manufacturer program tells us to sell. That independence matters in Fresno, where a western-facing front entry can bake a door slab to 140 degrees by mid-afternoon in July. Keith Yamada, our owner, trained in glazing and architectural millwork at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent more than two decades working on Central Valley homes. He’ll tell you straight: a Therma-Tru door that’s properly hung and sealed on day one will hold up for years, but one that’s even slightly out of square will fight you every season.
Why Trust Lightwell Windows Fresno for Your Therma-Tru Windows & Doors?
Therma-Tru doors have specific engineering: fiberglass skins over a foam core, an adjustable sill cap, compression weatherstripping, and hinges that are meant to carry a certain weight. When a tech doesn’t know these units, they treat them like any other door, and that’s when problems start. Our techs know the difference between a Smooth-Star skin delaminating from moisture and a Classic-Craft slab that’s bowed from heat, because we see both patterns every week across Fresno.
We use genuine Therma-Tru hinges, weatherstripping, and adjustable sill caps when they’re available. When OEM parts are backordered, we’ll fit quality aftermarket equivalents and tell you exactly what we’re using and why. Nobody gets a surprise part on the invoice. Every job starts with a written price, every tech is background-checked and uniformed, and the crew follows the C.A.R.E. values on every visit: Clean up like it’s our own home, Ask before we move anything, Respect your family’s time and quiet hours, Explain the price before the work begins. We run this way because Keith Yamada figures a homeowner who understands the work is easier to serve well. A light well is what brings daylight deep into a building. That’s what a properly installed door should do too: bring light and clarity into how your home functions, without asking for your attention again.

Common Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Problems We Fix in Fresno
Here’s what we actually see in Fresno, not what a generic service page lists:
- Fiberglass skin delamination on Smooth-Star doors. This is the one almost no manufacturer page mentions. When sprinkler overspray hits the bottom rail of an older Smooth-Star door season after season, moisture works its way into the fiberglass skin and the outer layer starts to bubble and peel. Our techs rebuild the bottom rail with a two-part fiberglass patch kit, sand it flush, and refinish the slab. If it’s caught early, the repair is invisible. If the skin has fully separated at the corners, replacement is the better path.
- Warped or bowed Classic-Craft slabs. Classic-Craft doors have a beautiful wood-grain texture, but an unshaded western entry in Fresno can push the slab past its tolerance. The door bows slightly away from the jamb on the strike side, and suddenly the deadbolt doesn’t line up. Sometimes the slab can be re-aligned with hinge adjustments. Sometimes the door needs a full frame replacement. We’ll tell you which one is worth your money.
- Flattened compression weatherstripping on Pulse series doors. The Pulse line uses a compression weatherstrip that seals against the door slab when it closes. Five or six years of Fresno heat cycling flattens that strip, and you start feeling air movement around the perimeter, especially along the bottom corners. This is a straightforward fix: pull the old weatherstripping, clean the kerf, press in a new OEM-grade seal. The door closes tight again.
- Sagging hinges and striker misalignment on Benchmark doors. Benchmark is Therma-Tru’s value line, and the hinges do honest work. But heavy daily use, combined with settling foundations common in Fresno’s older post-war neighborhoods, pulls the hinges a few degrees out of alignment. The door drags at the top corner, the striker plate doesn’t catch, and the deadbolt has to be forced. We re-shim the hinges or replace the screws with longer fasteners that bite into the framing. If the frame itself has racked, we’ll talk about a full frame replacement.
- Seized crank-out casement window operators from the 1960s and 70s. In Fresno’s Tower District and other older neighborhoods, original casement windows with steel operators have seized from decades of dust and heat. While Therma-Tru is primarily a door manufacturer, these older homes often have Therma-Tru entry doors paired with failing windows, and homeowners ask us to look at both while we’re there. We do.
Therma-Tru Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We stock the parts that fail most often in Fresno: Therma-Tru adjustable sill caps, compression weatherstripping for Pulse and Benchmark doors, replacement hinge sets, and fiberglass patch kits for delamination repair. Having these on the truck means most service calls get resolved in one visit, not two or three.
When we evaluate a Therma-Tru door, the first question is whether the slab itself is sound. If the fiberglass skin is intact and the core isn’t saturated, we repair: new hinges, new weatherstripping, a rebuilt bottom rail, a re-aligned slab. Repair is almost always less expensive, and a repaired door with OEM parts will last as long as the original installation. But if the frame has racked from settlement, or the skin has fully separated at the corners, or the slab has bowed so far that no hinge adjustment will pull it back, we’ll recommend a full frame replacement and explain why. We won’t patch a door that’s going to fight you again in eight months. Call (559) 272-9650 and we’ll give you an honest read on which path makes sense.
Our Therma-Tru Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We arrive, lay down drop cloths, and inspect the full opening: slab alignment, hinge wear, weatherstrip condition, sill cap, and the fit of the frame in the rough opening. We ask when the problem started and whether it changes with the season. A door that sticks only in summer is a different problem than one that sticks year-round.
- 2
Written estimate. Before any work starts, you get a written price showing parts and labor. No change orders after the fact. If we find something unexpected mid-repair, we stop and call you. You decide before we spend another dollar.
- 3
Repair or install. We use OEM Therma-Tru parts where available, quality aftermarket where they’re the better fit. For entry doors and full frame replacement, we shim the frame square, check the reveal around all four sides, and hang the slab so the weatherstripping compresses evenly.
- 4
Test and tune. We close the door slow and fast, check the deadbolt throw, and run a thin feeler gauge around the weatherstripping to confirm the seal is even. For French and double doors, we check both slabs and the astragal alignment.
- 5
Cleanup and photo. We vacuum and wipe down the work area, and take a photo of the finished cleanup before we leave, per the Cedarwell Care Promise. If the finished work isn’t right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right. No debate, no countdown.

AfterTherma-Tru Products We Service & Install in Fresno
We also provide Therma Tru repair in Clovis and service and install across the Therma-Tru lineup. Classic-Craft is the premium fiberglass line with its wood-grain texture and high-end finish options; we see it most often on custom homes in north Fresno. Smooth-Star is the smooth-skinned fiberglass door popular in 1990s and 2000s tract homes, and the one most prone to bottom-rail delamination from sprinkler overspray. Pulse is the performance line with its compression weatherstripping and contemporary flush-glazed options. Benchmark is the builder-grade fiberglass line, common in 2000s-era subdivisions. We stock common parts locally for all four lines, and our techs are trained on the adjustment points and failure modes specific to each.
We Also Service These Brands
Therma-Tru is a big part of our work in Fresno, but it’s not the only brand we carry, and we also offer Therma Tru service in Sanger. Lightwell Windows Fresno services window and door products from eight manufacturers, including PGT, CGI, CWS, and ES Windows. That matters when a home has a Therma-Tru entry door and a PGT sliding patio door that both need attention. One call, one crew, both openings handled.
FAQs – Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Service in Fresno
No. We are an independent Therma-Tru service provider, not an authorized dealer or warranty station. That means we make recommendations based on what your door actually needs, and we’ll tell you when a repair is covered by your original Therma-Tru warranty and you should call the manufacturer directly. Call (559) 272-9650 and we’ll help you figure that out.
Most delamination on Smooth-Star doors can be repaired if it hasn’t spread past the bottom rail. We sand back the bubbled fiberglass, apply a two-part patch, and refinish the area to match. Our tech rebuilt the bottom rail of a Smooth-Star door on a Fresno home where sprinkler overspray had caused the skin to bubble and peel; two seasons later the door is still tight and the owner no longer sees daylight under the weatherstrip. If the skin has separated at the corners or the core is saturated, replacement is the better call. We’ll show you before recommending either path.
The compression weatherstripping on Pulse series doors flattens with age and repeated heat cycling. Fresno summers accelerate that process. The fix is replacing the weatherstrip with a fresh OEM-grade seal, which restores the press-fit around all four edges. Call (559) 272-9650 and we’ll check the condition of your weatherstripping and give you a written price.
That’s slab expansion from direct sun exposure, common on unshaded western entries in Fresno. The door heats up through the afternoon and bows slightly, catching at the top corner of the jamb. It may settle back at night or after the sun moves. We can often correct this with hinge adjustments that give the slab slightly more clearance on the strike side. If the bow is permanent, we’ll talk about a replacement. Estimates are free; call (559) 272-9650 for an exact read.
We stock Therma-Tru adjustable sill caps for the common sizes on Smooth-Star, Pulse, and Benchmark doors, along with OEM-grade weatherstripping and hinge sets. Most repairs happen in one visit. If we need to special-order an uncommon size or finish, we’ll tell you before we start and give you a timeline in writing.
Service calls in Fresno for Therma-Tru door repairs typically run from $150 to $400 depending on the issue, with common fixes like weatherstripping replacement at the lower end and full hinge re-hanging or delamination repair at the higher end. Full frame replacement for a Therma-Tru entry door generally runs between $1,800 and $4,500, depending on the model line, size, and whether the rough opening needs correction. Every job gets a written line-item quote before work begins. Call (559) 272-9650 for an exact price on your door.
